about

These B-Sides were written after the Cooper365 project was completed but they didn't go onto the Out Of Here EP. So I thought I'd bundle them together and make them available as a B-Sides EP.

Track Name: Avalanche
I hear your voice, it’s here again, despite my better judgement I am stirring I am moving from the soft glow of the TV
And I wish that I had never said that you could have the passion for the both of us and that that was fine with me

They said you looked like you’d been through the wars
When really you’d been shouting at the walls

But we’re gonna be brazen
Yeah we’re gonna be tailors of the day
A smile that’s just like cyanide, tongue-in-cheek we all shuffle away
Yeah we’re gonna be fury
Yeah we’re gonna be an avalanche of joy
Wake up most ungracefully remembering I’m no longer a boy

I cannot stand the way they are, duplicitous and so self-assured but maybe I’m full of envy
‘Cause that’s not how I’ve ever been and now I must get used to this, the feeling right after you leave

And who was I to revile you when all you really wanted was a happy ever after after all,
And who was I to make a claim that I was bound for glory when I’m just standing, hands in pockets in the hall
Track Name: Let You Down
It tumbled out sideways and the story’s a lie on the side of the road,
But it feels wrong to move, it feels to move it before it is cold,
I went for elusive, I went for a piss when we stopped the van,
And the sky was awash with troublesome grey and a billion half-whispered plans.

And when I smirk and say, “You know we’re all just cells,”
I love the way you say “Go to hell,
‘cause we need to be vital, we need to be happening right now.”

I thought that I lost before I had tried to work you out,
‘cause I’ll go for fleeting, swift like the night we nearly drowned,
I know that you’re holding out for someone who isn’t a clown,
But all that I ask is a chance to let you down.

And when I smirk and say, “You know we’re all just cells,”
I love the way you say “Go to hell,
‘cause we need to be vital, we need to be happening right now.”

I don’t mind if I am forgotten,
I don’t mind if I am forgotten,
I don’t mind if I am forgotten,
I just a want a chance to let you down.
Track Name: Bag Of Nerves
I tried to write you, I tried to write you down,
But we’re stuck in always, outside of language now,
You had your tough love, I had my quiet reserve,
You had your ‘so what?’, I was a bag of nerves.

Trust us to wait around, trust us to float away,
While everything was happening we wished the day away,
And I live treading doubt, please don’t make me talk,
I’ll let the truth back out and then we’ll both regret it all.

Just like a harvest I had a fleeting use,
But then deflated, I lay ragged and loose,
I want perspective, I want a broken heart,
It might revive me, it might propel a start.

Trust us to wait around, trust us to float away,
While everything was happening we wished the day away,
And I live treading doubt, please don’t make me talk,
I’ll let the truth back out and then we’ll both regret it all.

And your comeuppance is just to think aloud
For just a moment, inside a buzzing crowd,
You had your tough love, I had my quiet reserve,
You had your ‘so what?’, I was a bag of nerves.

Trust us to wait around, trust us to float away,
While everything was happening we wished the day away,
And I live treading doubt, please don’t make me talk,
I’ll let the truth back out and then we’ll both regret it all.
Track Name: Whatever Helps
The trouble is I’m half-awake and I want to see out this day
The trouble here is with glory
We sew our lips and hold our tongues; we’ll just hop onto the next one
And spin more lies of how we’ll head out to sea
Just a little further you say to me
Just a little further you say to me

And just this once we’ll see it through, like that kiss beneath the rusty moon
Who knew we could ever be ourselves?
He’s engaged in playground politics, she’s thinks that she’s a maverick
That’s all fine kids, please yourselves
I was never one to dwell
Apart from every time I dwell

Buy a house. Raise the kids.
Wonder if there’s more than this.
Go to work. Forget yourself.
Well, whatever helps.

The trouble is I’m half-awake and I want to see out this day
The trouble here is with glory
And I could reprimand all day, as if I have a better way
But nothing really comes to me
I’ll just find a spot to sneer
I’ll just find a spot to sneer

Buy a house. Raise the kids.
Wonder if there’s more than this.
Go to work. Forget yourself.
Well, whatever helps.
Track Name: Tapes
Maybe the coughs and the splutters at night
Are nothing to cause any morals to fight
And this year is starting to bring us down
So let’s team up and grapple it all to the ground

So where now for all of us?
You really tied this up and half of my brain is asleep
I march on as if I care
I want to stop and stare but nothing has grabbed hold of me

I whisper for fear of waking the world
I remember when they called you silly girl
You carved out a path of unresolved spite
And so we lie here trying to inhale the night

Tapes are strewn across this floor
They hold what we’re living for
To keep all the troubles at bay
I planned, just as I always plan
God I’m a tiresome man
The present just leaks with each day

No one’s gonna save you

This is a sinking ship
We scramble around on it
Gasping for cleaner air
I know that hearts are supposed to melt
But you could well find yourself
Trapped inside of nowhere
